*GIVEAWAY* & Review: TofuXpress

When I first heard of the TofuXpress, I was somewhat skeptical. I wondered if I actually needed a tofu press, or if it would just be another kitchen gadget taking up room in my cabinets. I contacted Richard from TofuXpress.com to request a unit to review here on my blog. He agreed, and I couldn’t wait to try it!

The short answer to my question is YES. I need this!

Here’s my problem: I don’t like wrapping my tofu in paper towels and stacking books and cans on top of it to get the water out. It’s a hassle, a mess, and not very environmentally friendly. Any recipe that I need to get the water out of the tofu for, I just squeeze it with paper towels and then go on with the recipe. I don’t even get a quarter of the amount of water out of the tofu doing it that way as I can with the TofuXpress. Until I tried the TofuXpress, I had no idea how much of a difference it made when using tofu!

You put the block of tofu into the press and it squeezes out more water than you even knew was in it. Now the tofu is about half the size it was before and it isn’t full of water. This makes it easy to crumble to use in tofu scrambles or my recipe for Tofu Ricotta. Recently, I have been trying out different marinades and the pressed tofu just absorbs it all! Before I used the TofuXpress, my blocks of tofu were mostly filled with water instead of flavor.

In the past, I’ve made tofu jerky in the dehydrator. I never seemed to get enough flavor on the insides so I would end up making more paste-like marinades that I could brush over it again once the tofu was dehydrated. I just love how the flavors all soak into the inside of the tofu now and I’ve been making some delicious flavored tofu jerky.

The TofuXpress comes with a lid (which is attached to the bottom- love that!) so that once you are done pressing your tofu, you can leave it right in the press and add your flavors/marinade and cover it. I’m always happy about using as few dishes as possible. :)

If you ever cook with tofu, I’d say that the TofuXpress is a necessity. It’s one of those things that you don’t know you need until you try it and think “WOW… How have I lived without this for so long?!”

Check out this product demo video on how to use the TofuXpress.

My overall thoughts on the TofuXpress is that I love it and can no longer live without it. It’s easy to clean, easy to use, and if mine ever breaks (it actually seems very well-made though, so hopefully it’ll never break :) ), I will definitely replace it.

The TofuXpress is available for sale on their website or on Amazon!

I have had this on my wish list for months. I must have it!! :)

What a great invention! I hope I win!

  • callie says:

I would use it for EVERYTHING. But especially baked tofu.

  • Caitlin says:

This thing looks AMAZING. I would love to eat more tofu and this looks like a great way to do it so I’m not taking up half the fridge with tofu squeezing contraptions.

  • Kristin Konrady says:

We go through SO much tofu- seriously….a block per day just for our dog, more if I’m making something with tofu for ourselves. Our dog, Maxine, has cancer (we had to amputate her front right leg a few years ago) & I cook for her since it’s all she will eat without getting “sick”. Every day, I cook her whole wheat pasta or brown rice with crumbled tofu, peas, blueberries, green beans, crushed tomatoes, nutritional yeast, sea kelp, corn, carrots, olive oil, & miso soup broth. I will be pressing a block of tofu every day for the rest of her life, which better be a long time!!! She’s a big dog, (rescued pitbull that thinks she’s a cat).

Been wanting one of these for awhile now. Would be great for my tofu eggless salad that I make as it calls for not one but TWO blocks of tofu. That is a lot of paper towels :)

    • Tia Tofu says:

oooo I LOVE tofu eggless salad! I need to post my recipe soon. Yes, this would make a huge difference in that dish! I add the tofu still all water-y, but with this press the texture and taste would be so much better!

  • Holly says:

This looks interesting, I’ve been plant-based for 7 months and I still haven’t had tofu. I’ve always been intimidated by the pressing part and never really knew what to do. This looks like it would make that whole process easier.

  • I would use this very often. I hate pressing tofu!!! I like tofu mixed with cooked veggies.

  • Jeanette Liao says:

omg this is perfect!! I have been pressing tofu by stacking canned good over bowl over bowl over stack of plates, and it’s craaazy!! I end up using so many of my dishes for pressing tofu that I don’t have enough to cook with! :D so glad I found out about this product, thanks!

  • Ben says:

A tofu press is a necessity! They are better at removing water from Firm and Extra firm tofu which allows for better absorption of flavors and better texture. I use the EZ Tofu Press also available online. Cant lie without one!

  • Maria says:

At first I thought it’d be a waste of money since I can do it myself for free…but after dealing with all the paper towels, washcloths, falling cans and books, I started to get lazy. Sometimes I won’t even use the tofu because I feel like it’s too much effort to set it all up and leave it out on the counter all day (what if the cat messes with it? what if the weights fall off and the pressing stops?). Recently I have been really wanting a Tofu Xpress but have waited because of the price. Hopefully this is my chance :)

I loooove making teriyaki tofu, and this would be amazing for it!! I hate wasting SO many paper towels when pressing my tofu. :(

I want to grill better tofu burger’s on the grill. And when I say “I want to grill”, I really mean I want my husband to. ;-)
